Welcome to Higher Standard Mentoring! Our organization is designed to strengthen
the capacities of underprivileged youth and children through prevention and awareness. HSM's aim is to reach kids that are
at risk for violence and gang activity, substance abuse and poor performance in school.
Our Mission
The mission of Higher Standard Mentoring Inc., is to encourage children and youth, 8-18, to acquire higher morals, educational,
and manhood/womanhood training.
Statistics:
According to the Connecticut Commission on Children:
- 610,000 youth ages 5-17 years old live in Connecticut.
- Only 1/3 (185,000) are involved in supervised, safe, enriching after-school programs.
- The peak hours of violent juvenile crimes are committed between 3 - 6p.m.
- Good after-school programs can cut up to 75% the risk of becoming involved in crimes.
- 41% of elementary schools do not offer programs.
